Servant of Two Masters
by Carlo Goldoni

It’s a tough gig satisfying even one demanding boss, let alone two— especially when neither master knows you’re doing double duty. On a perpetually empty stomach, Truffaldino pulls off the impossible in a sidesplitting classic.

Carlo Goldoni's The Servant of Two Masters (1745) was set in Venice, Italy. This new adaption is also set in Venice—Venice Beach that is, c. 1955. Murray says, “We’re trading the gondolas and masks for beatniks, bongos and bikinis. This is great comedy, driven by two strong eternal forces in our lives: food and love. Those forces were fully in play when I was growing up in Southern California, and I think we can have a lot of fun with them on muscle beach... It’s really commedia dell’arte meets doo-wop. It’s pure happiness.”
